What's in the Box: Inside OzMobiles Refurbished Packaging

Packed with care, wrapped in recyclable packaging, delivered without surprises.

Every OzMobiles order leaves the bench packed the same way. Your device sits under a clear film stretched across the base of the tray, and the charging cable and SIM ejector tool go in with it. Nothing is loose, nothing rattles, and nothing shifts between here and your front door.

The box around it is plain and sturdy, and sized so there's no empty space for the contents to travel in. It's cardboard, so once you've unpacked it, it flattens down and goes straight into the kerbside recycling.

And there's nothing waiting inside to catch you out. Three things go in, every time: your device, a charging cable, and a SIM ejector tool. There's no wall plug, and we'd rather you hear that from us now than find out on delivery day.

We filmed a real order being opened on the bench, so you can watch the whole thing rather than take our word for it.

What's actually in the box

Your device

The phone, sitting under a clear film so it can't shift around in transit. By the time it reaches the tray it's been tested, graded, and wiped of the previous owner's data. It turns up switched off, with the SIM tray empty and waiting for your card.

Charging cable

A cable that matches your phone's port, coiled and tied off. USB-C on newer models, Lightning on older iPhones. It's a cable and nothing else, so if you don't have a spare wall plug at home, sort one before it lands.

SIM ejector tool

The little metal pin that pops the SIM tray open. You'll need it in the first minute if you're moving a physical SIM across from your old phone, and it's the thing people most often go digging for an hour after unboxing.

Sixty seconds on the despatch bench. Coralie asks, Junior answers, one take, no script.

The one thing on the list that doesn't take up any space

The packaging protects the phone in transit. This is what protects it afterwards.

We call it the Happy Promise. It's the set of commitments that travel with the device, and it's the part that matters if something stops working six months from now.

What comes with it What that means in practice
Minimum 12-month warranty Parts and labour on manufacturing defects and hardware faults, from the day it lands. Twelve months minimum, and 15 months on Exceptional.
30-day returns Change of mind counts, not just faults. If the phone isn't what you pictured, send it back within 30 days. Terms apply.
Battery health guarantee Every phone ships at 80% health or better, and Exceptional starts at 90%. If it drops below 80% during your warranty period, we repair or replace it free.
Price beat guarantee Find the same model and condition cheaper at a legitimate Australian retailer and we'll beat that price by $10. Conditions apply.

Every phone we sell clears the same 80-point Phonecheck diagnostic before it gets listed, whatever grade it ends up in. The grade you pick describes how the phone looks and where its battery floor sits. It says nothing about whether it works, because that part is settled before it reaches the bench.

What's not in there

No wall plug. Apple dropped it from the iPhone box in October 2020, Samsung followed with the Galaxy S21 in January 2021, and the rest of the industry went the same way. Open a brand new Galaxy today and you get a cable, a SIM tool and a start guide. Buying refurbished doesn't put the plug back in.

For most people that's a non-event, because most people already have two or three sitting in a drawer. If you don't, add one to your order from our chargers range and it turns up in the same delivery.

No headphones either, for the same reason and on much the same timeline.

No case and no screen protector. We'd rather not pick those for you. A case someone else chose tends to end up in the drawer with the spare plugs, and the right one depends on how you actually use your phone. If you want one, they're in our accessories range.

And no sealed manufacturer's box. A refurbished phone has had a first owner, and the original retail packaging went with them.

There's a common thread through all of it. Every plug and every pair of headphones that ships alongside a phone somebody already owns is one more object heading for a drawer, and eventually for landfill. Leaving them out is the same instinct as making the box recyclable in the first place.

What happens before it goes in the box

Packing takes a couple of minutes. Everything before it takes considerably longer, and that's the part that decides whether a phone gets listed at all.

80-point tested

Our technicians run every device through Phonecheck's 80-point diagnostic on site. It covers the screen and touch response, both cameras, speakers and microphones, every button, the charge port, the sensors and the wireless radios. Anything that fails goes back for rework and gets tested again.

Checked against its history

The same diagnostic reads the phone's IMEI against the blacklist for lost, stolen and unpaid handsets, and confirms it isn't carrier locked. It also flags non-original parts, so a screen or battery swapped in somewhere along the way shows up instead of staying hidden.

Wiped properly

Erasure runs through Phonecheck's ADISA-certified process, the standard the industry uses for permanent data removal. Nothing belonging to the previous owner survives it, and the phone reaches you with nothing on it at all.

Professionally graded

Function is settled by the diagnostic. Condition is graded separately against published standards, so Good, Excellent, Ex-Demo and Exceptional mean the same thing every time we use them.

A new battery is a choice you make at checkout rather than one we make for you. Tick it and a technician fits one before the phone is packed. Leave it and you get what the grade guarantees: 80% health or better across the range, and 90% or above on Exceptional.

If you ever want to see the diagnostic for your specific phone rather than take the summary on trust, the Phonecheck certification report is available on request.

You get a charging cable that matches your phone's port, USB-C on newer models and Lightning on older iPhones. The wall plug is not included, so if you don't have a spare at home, add one to your order and it turns up in the same delivery.

No. A refurbished phone has had a first owner, and the sealed manufacturer's box went with them. Your device arrives in a plain cardboard box sized to fit it, held under a clear film so nothing shifts in transit, and the box goes straight into kerbside recycling.

No SIM card is included and the SIM tray arrives empty, ready for your own. We do include the SIM ejector tool, which is what you need in the first minute if you're moving a physical SIM across from your old phone.

Not by default. Every phone ships at 80% battery health or better, and Exceptional grade starts at 90%. You can add a brand new battery at checkout, and a technician fits it before the phone is packed.
