In the world of smartphones, there are a few manufacturers with a rich history, like Samsung, which dates back to the 2000s when it first launched. The company’s work in the phone industry goes beyond smartphones, dating back decades.
The South Korean company launched its first mobile phone in 1988 and became a success in the mid-1990s. Samsung is one of the few companies that rival Apple in having such a deep connection to the launch and subsequent popularity of smartphones.
Samsung launched their first Android-powered smartphone in 2009, the Samsung Galaxy. The Samsung Galaxy S was released a year later, in 2010, and the rest is history. The original Galaxy S was a massive success, rivalling Apple’s iPhones and putting the company on track to become a world leader in the smartphone industry.
Now, over a decade later, the world is eagerly awaiting the launch and reveal of the Samsung Galaxy S25. Rumours and speculation are running wild, with fans and media outlets trying to determine the phone’s release date, specifications, and how it’ll improve Samsung’s new artificial intelligence features.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Release Date
The Galaxy S25 is currently the smartphone industry’s worst-kept secret. The world knows it's coming, but the phone hasn’t been revealed yet, let alone set a release date.
If the Galaxy S25 follows the precedent set by previous Galaxy S phones, it should be unveiled at the next Galaxy Unpacked event. Galaxy Unpacked is Samsung’s showcase event, showing off new devices they’re working on, like tablets, smartphones, and wearables.
Galaxy Unpacked is usually held twice a year and features keynote presentations, production demonstrations, and exhibits. The next Galaxy Unpacked is estimated to take place in early 2025, with industry professionals estimating either January or February.
The most recent Galaxy Unpacked event was held on July 10, 2024, in Paris, France. At this event, they revealed the new Galaxy Z Flip and Fold devices, along with other smart wearables, like the Galaxy Ring and Watch.
In the next Galaxy Unpacked, fans can expect the S25, S25 Plus and S25 Ultra models to be announced. They can also expect new accessories, like new Galaxy Buds, as well as new tablets and laptops.
What Are The Rumours Specs of the Galaxy S25
Time is ticking as we slowly crawl closer to the inevitable reveal of the Samsung Galaxy S25. Almost every day that passes, new rumours on the specifications fly about. From the supposed chipset to the camera lenses.
Naturally, it’s expected that the Galaxy S25 will be a huge leap over the previous generation. Every flagship entry into the Galaxy S series has always been built upon its predecessors. Given how prominent the Galaxy AI features were in the S24, it’s almost guaranteed the S25 is sure to have more fleshed-out, compelling artificial intelligence options, too.
These ‘leaks’ have given us a good idea of what to expect when the S25 is revealed.
- Well-known leaker Yeux 1122 reports the base model Galaxy S25 will have a slightly bigger display than the S24. Instead of 6.2 inches, it might be increased to 6.36 inches.
- Aside from the increase in display, it is expected the design of the S25 will be similar to the S24, with the same armour aluminium frame.
- One of the earliest leaks for the Galaxy S25 suggests a performance boost, courtesy of Qualcomm’s next chipset. This could either be the Snapdragon 8 Elite or Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset.
- Samsung has been consistently on the top of the camera game in the smartphone industry, and the latest rumours suggest the S25 and S25 Ultra will be the same. Users can expect a massive upgrade to the next generation of phone’s camera lenses.
- Tech media outlets like Tom’s Guide expect the Galaxy S25 to have a bigger battery capacity and more efficient processor, resulting in better battery life. Users can expect longer usage times than the S24. Leaks possibly even suggest a 5,000 mAh battery for the Ultra model.
Qualcomm only unveiled its new Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset on October 22, 2024. It is the world’s fastest mobile CPU, paired with an Adreno GPU and enhanced Qualcomm Hexagon NPU.
So, if performance for heavy multitasking, Samsung DeX, or gaming/entertainment is important to you, the Samsung Galaxy S25 is shaping up to be a powerhouse. It looks as if the S25 might also launch with 12GB of RAM in the base model and 16GB of RAM in the Ultra versions.
The Estimated Price of the Galaxy S25
There isn’t much information about the estimated pricing of the Galaxy S25. The best information we have to go off of is the initial pricing for the previous, S24 and S23 generation of phones.
The price for the base model of the Galaxy S24 was $1,399 in Australia. The S24 Ultra model started at $2,187 for the cheapest 256GB model and was $2,787 for the premium 1TB version. The Galaxy S25 should launch at similar prices for its respective models.
Will The Refurbished Galaxy S25 Phones Be Available?
Currently, there is no official release date for the Galaxy S25 series of phones. Like with all phones, the Galaxy S25 should have a refurbished market anywhere from a few weeks to months after the launch of the phone.
For comparison, the iPhone 16 was launched in September 2024, and by the end of October 2024, reputable sellers were already stocking refurbished models. So, if you’re looking to save some money on the S25, it might be worth waiting a few months after it launches.
It’s also important to keep in mind that refurbished devices usually start with the base model being more widely available. This is because it’s more likely that there’ll be more base model versions sold, and people may change their mind and upgrade to the Ultra edition—selling or trading in their base S25 to be refurbished.
